Picture a bunch of people standing around in a circle. Now picture them
step touching in that circle. Then add a little bit of arm movement. If things
get really crazy someone might go into the circle with this move. Females may
add a bit of hip movement as well…This is Mongolian dance. It’s humorous to
watch, awkward to be involved in. American’s dance with much more movement so,
when Lorre, Will Brittany and I went to the club, we stood out like sore
thumbs; picture two blonde white girls, a black girl and a tall lanky blonde
white male shaking their bums on the dance floor (I finally decided to ask if I
could use their names for my blog since they will inevitably be appearing in
them quite often)! American’s go to the club, get drunk and grind on one
another. Mongolian’s go to the club, some do not drink; and dance in this
reserved motion for hours. Women and men in their 60’s will go to a club and
join in a random circle. It’s interesting to see, and was exciting that in our
Aimag we were able to participate without issues. We went for a couple of
hours, and left early enough to dodge the drunk individuals who lurk in the
darkness. It was a good night!
