AUgUsT 31, 2013 A DrEaDeD MeEtING!

Everyone talks about these lengthy meetings. Today I experience a 2 ½ hour meeting in Mongolian. Every once in a while people would talk out of turn and I could observe a discussion happening, but for the most part, people sat and listened to speakers reading off of lengthy power points. About an hour in of this, I started watching to see how many more power points would be closed and opened. It was a momentarily interesting thing to watch the amount of writing that could be placed on a single slide; however it got old rather fast. As American’s we take classes that teach us how to use power points. We are taught that reading off a power point is not acceptable and rather a good presenter is able to put bullet points on a power point and then add to it with their knowledge. This to me screams the soviet teaching method. As Peace Corps volunteers, this teaching method is exactly why we are here. A more interactive, learning method can not only make meetings more fun, but keep students engaged in the classrooms as well.
