TeNnIs; a SeXuaL ConnOtAtiOn.

“Thailand prostitutes are similar to tennis in that they are very easy, quick and they can make a lot of money. Women are NOT exploited.” These were the words from an Australian man whose friend owns a high rise that prostitutes will frequent to sell themselves to whoever can afford their fare. “There are a hundred women to choose from, you go in and say that one and that one, and that one too”. –same Australiand dude- A necessary living for those involved? In Thailand there is no moral stigma associated with sex, so therefore, tennis is the prescribed persona of what individuals in Thailand view sex as. You walk along the streets and see sex toys and pornography everywhere. Things you didn’t have a name for because you didn’t know they existed are on various public tables beckoning for you to buy them. I often wonder if a small child will wander by a table and grab the nearest dildo screaming, “look at what I’ve found mommy”! You walk the streets and see prostitution happening on the nearest street corner. While I have been told it is not legal, cops turn a blind eye because the industry is so lucrative and successful here. Old men with their “trophy wives” walk the streets ramped. What happened to self esteem? Awareness of what is acceptable and what makes you special? Money is the driving factor for this practice. Young, seemingly attractive women do the best they can by selling what they have in order to take care of their parents when they retire or are laid off; sadly, the most money comes from this trade. So when does it stop? I think it would be safe to say that when individuals from first world countries, stop catering to a trade that yes, in fact does degrade and exploit women, they will only then, not have a use for this industry. From what I have been told, by the same Austrailian man, the ages between 21 and 28 tend to be the average that women practice this profession, but what about the outliers? The young children who are conned into the adult trade? What happens to them and their futures? How about their perception of sex? In America, we are made to believe that sex can be special with that certain someone but here; sex is never going to be associated with feelings of love but rather feelings of survival and performed out of necessity.
