Day 1- The first leg of the trip and Orientation

My day started at 3:30 this morning, as panic struck that I weigh less than all my bags put together. My solution? Take a pair of brown boots out of my bag, and a couple shirts.  For some reason, taking five pounds out of one of my ginormous  suitcases put my mind at ease.  Panic again, when I realized it would cost 150 dollars to bring a third bag (my guitar). While Mr. Brinkley stated he would take care of it, again dragging 3 bags of 120 pounds of clothing, shoes and unmentionables seemed ample. The flight from San Angelo to Dallas was pretty bumpy. Boarding a small plane at 6a.m only to be thrown around the entire time, not so fun? It probably didn’t help that my father showed me a youtube video of a plane crashing while I was home…..serenity, serenity, serenity.  The second flight was delayed by 45 minutes. Personnel stated at one point one of the problems was ironed out but in the process they found another problem.  Always love those delays!  I however, received a very nice email from my Uncle after I boarded the second flight.  It was a nice surprise and quite a lift to my spirits!
I finally make it to Washington, manage to get a cab and get to the hotel NO PROBLEMS! After checking into my room, and registering, orientation started for the Peace Corps. After a few short hours (5 to be exact) filled with Ice breakers, artwork, safety warnings, and numerous other tidbits of information that we will probably be hearing more about in the course of our service we were DONE. At least with group information. Since I also volunteered to be a group leader I had to stay a little longer to find out exactly what this job would entail.  I was in charge of handing out passports to half the volunteers, as well as keeping track of seven people that would be in my group.  Easy right?? FINALLY, the time came when I was done for the night. After a fantastic dinner with my Aunt, Uncle and Cousin, and a couple drinks with the roommate, it was time for BED…..12am....
